The Sunday Guide – May

INSPIRATION STATEMENT

My Mother – The ultimate in Tom Boy Style

"When your mother asks: 'Do you want a piece of advice?' It is a mere formality. It doesn’t matter if you answer yes or no, you’re going to get it anyway”
– Erma Bombeck

Mother's Day – The official Mother's Day Holiday arose in the 1900s as the result of the efforts of Anna Jarvis, daughter of Ann Reeves Jarvis, following her mother's death. Anna Jarvis conceived of Mother's Day as a way of honoring the sacrifices mothers made for their children.
My own mother passed away over 25 years ago. However, I often reach back to the well of sound advice and wisdom that she poured into me, the whole of her life. I can be having the most difficult of days or faced with an overwhelming challenge and I can just close my eyes and hear my mother's calming voice or stern warning to help me navigate my way through the crisis or situation. As well, I can still feel her prideful gaze and words of encouragement when I have touched success or reached the mountain top.

I say this to remind all Mothers everywhere that all that advice, solicited or not, does sink in! Nobody knows you better than your Mama.

And even when your mother is gone, you are are still left listening!

Over the last week, I asked friends and associates to share some words of wisdom they received from their mothers, or advice they have given AS mothers.

See if any of these sound familiar:

What is the best advice your Mother gave you?
