The Sunday Guide – June

The Sunday Guide – June

Inspiration Statement

I’ve been a cannabis ambassador since the 1970s. My knowledge, understanding, and endorsement has only continued to grow in recent years, and it seems much of world is now on the same journey.

The amount of information on cannabis—in particular CBD—can be overwhelming and hard to navigate. For this reason, I’ve decided to host a panel on June 13 with some of the brightest women at the forefront of this community. Our goal is to provide a well-rounded understanding on how plant-based medicine can improve our well being, both internally and externally.

We will attempt to demystify the following:
How does it work?
Why does it work?
What are the differences between products?

As with most things, when I find something I love, I want to share it with all of you. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the panel of experts, and hope you’ll join me for a little education and some beautiful discoveries.

xoxo,
Jill Donnelly

A Brief Overview on Cannabis

Let’s start with the basics. When people think of marijuana, ‘getting high’ is often what comes to mind. That sensation is cause by tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the main psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis — psychoactive being the operative word.

Unlike THC, CBD—another chemical compound found in cannabis—is not psychoactive, and therefore does not get you high. It does, however, seem to be a cure-all for physical ailments, mental health, and even serious diseases.

In an interview with Vogue, Gunner Winston of Dosist commented on the evolution of cannabis saying, “It’s not about recreation and intoxication anymore; it’s about wellness and natural solutions.”

His comments sum up what the CBD movement is all about: plant-based medicine. A compound that can relieve pain, reduce anxiety and depression, and improve acne? It’s no wonder the focus (and profits) on cannabis are at an all time...high.

Ironically, for all the recent buzz, cannabis has been used medicinally elsewhere for thousands of years. An Irish doctor, William Brooke O’Shaughnessy, is often credited with popularizing cannabis in Great Britain after noting its positive effects on rheumatism and infantile seizures, among other things. The positive benefits of CBD on cancer symptoms, seizures, and heart health are still being researched, but have shown incredible potential and have already begun transforming lives.

Beyond use as an alternative medicine, research has shown that CBD might be a crucial key in the opioid epidemic. Dr. Hurd, a neuroscientist at Mount Sinai, hypothesizes that recovering addicts using CBD are able to better manage and reduce anxiety and craving, both major triggers for relapse.

The benefits of cannabis go well beyond self care, but those shouldn’t be discounted. Relief from minor aches and pains, better sleep, and glowing skin has never been more accessible thanks to a plethora of CBD-based products. These easy adjustments can often make monumental differences in daily life.

Plant power cannot be ignored, and while there’s no denying the influence of CBD wellness, we’re certain the full potential of cannabis is still to come.
