Coffee Startup: Onda Origins

Baby & Company is always excited to find fellow businesses dedicated to sustainable practices. The moment we were introduced to the founders of new coffee brand Onda Origins, Paul and Scott Tupper, we knew we were in the presence of true innovation. This week we peek inside the startup world and ask Onda's president, Paul Tupper, about the importance of high-transparency and how he distinguishes his business in the nation's coffee capital.  How did Onda Origins take shape? Tupper: Before Onda, I worked in ecotourism, environmental education, and fundraising for environmental nonprofits. I had lived in a high altitude coffee region in Costa Rica (working as a naturalist guide) and developed a fascination with the intersection between coffee, responsible land-use and conservation, and livelihoods.  Scott's...

Jean Therapy

While James Dean and Levi Strauss may have overwhelming popularized jeans in the fashion industry, Baby & Company’s own relationship with denim began in the 80’s with lines like Fiorucci, Deisel and Girbaud.   Photo courtesy of mariasoromenho.tumblr.com This season, we’re having a love affair with the new arrivals from R13, 6397, and Imperfect Sun. Each brand has a unique and signature way of presenting their iterations of denim, leaving plenty of options for every occasion and every personality. Classic Denim: It’s no accident jeans are a staple in so many wardrobes; denim is versatile and easy to pair with almost anything. Some of our favorite pieces are straightforward, flattering, and easy to mix and match. Shop this look here.  While...

New Luxury Day Spa

After the success of Antonio Salon, it seemed only natural that a boutique spa would follow in its well-groomed footsteps. Located directly across the street from the hair salon, Antonio Spa is a stylishly decorated open-air oasis amidst the noise of downtown Seattle. Maintaining the sustainability-driven ethos of the hair salon, the spa is certified by Green Circle and the main product line used, Comfort Zone, is powered by ethically-sourced ingredients and processes. This week, the Baby & Company editor wanders over to test drive some of the services offered: the Oxygeneo facial and brow tint. Masumi, who co-owns Antonio Spa, wears the Voz silk charmeuse kimono. Shop Masumi's look here.  Long: On the day I booked my appointment, the construction-heavy...

How to Bring Punk Fashion into the Office

Long touted as the exact opposite of business casual, punk fashion in 2018 is both edgy and functional: a practical option for your next breakfast meeting–albeit in tandem with tailored pieces. Three of our most beloved brands, R13, Ter et Bantine, and 6397, help illustrate how to take your graphic tees and distressed denim out of the mosh pit and into the office.  First up: Suiting Avoid looking corporate and de-sterilize your look with plaids and stripes. Try the checked pants from 6397 or the classic high-waisted Ter et Bantine trousers that come with a removable (but why would you?) hip chain. When in doubt, a head-to-toe patterned suit is sure to keep things interesting.  Image courtesy of 6397news.com Next: Denim + Blazers = 90’s...

Babe Night x Baby & Company

This week we chat with Morgan, Bela, Megan, and Gabrielle about Babe Night: the female produced DJ night that benefits local non-profits. Both Megan and Gabrielle also work as Baby & Company stylists. Their upcoming show is happening February 14 at Linda’s Tavern with proceeds benefitting Mary’s Place. The ladies educate us on the power of all-inclusive community spaces, dance-floor fashion, and the influential and limitless possibilities for the future of Babe Night. On a holiday that frequently polarizes the population, spending Valentine’s Day 2018 getting down and doing good is a win-win solution. How did Babe Night start?  Morgan: I asked Bela and Meg if they would like to DJ with me on a night I worked at the bar Speckled & Drake. We...

Home and History Editorial

This fall, we headed to the banks of Lake Washington for a nostalgia-heavy editorial at the extraordinary Robbins home. "A visit to the lake house, surrounded by an English-style garden, will take you on a wonderful journey through four generations of family history and endless stories from those who lived it," says Baby and Company owner Jill Donnelly. "Holidays were embellished and celebrations were many. Its residents spent both there first days on earth and their last days in this home." Lining the walls are treasures ranging from preschool masterpieces to a photographic map of the family's history. More than being a beautiful backdrop for our favorite fall looks, the Robbins house embodies what we love about autumn: the feeling...

Christina Hicks x Baby & Company

We grabbed a coffee with art director/photographer extraordinaire Christina Hicks to learn more about her dedicated interest in Slow Fashion, vegan living, and what makes fall in Seattle so special.  What about Seattle inspires you as a photographer and as a resident? Hicks: Seattle’s unique geography inspires me most—the abundance of plant life, bodies of water, and access to wilderness in every direction. Though I’m not a landscape photographer, it’s an inspiring starting point to have that as a backdrop. As a resident, I love how easy it is here to be able to explore one of the large parks, or quickly escape to a national park on a day off. We’re so lucky here! Why are you passionate about slow fashion? Oh man…I...
